I want to lose weight by eating nothing but moon pies, which have significantly less gravity than earthier foods such as fruits and vegetables. Jarod Kintz

A friend of mine read about my cycling clothing and sent me a picture. He fears that this will be my look until (or unless) I lose the weight.
It is easier to change a man’s religion than to change his diet. Margaret Mead

The sun has been out but it has been cold. As it warms I realize that if I had cold weather gear I could be out on my bike. The saying goes, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing.
I had planned to get winter gear around this time of year but I am frugal and since I plan to lose over one third of my body weight I can’t justify it for a month extra or riding. In the fall when the weight is gone and I have miles on my legs I will get the gear and extend the season. I know what I want and will get it.

As you know, I’m trying to drop 100 pounds. I just saw on the web that Honey Boo Boo’s mom lost 100 pounds. She went from 365 to a svelte 263. They have the photo to prove it.
For some reason, reading the article made me sad. Hope after losing my weight my looks actually improve. Read the article. All I can say is, good for her.

I had a friend comment on the recent skinsuits I’ve been posting. He asked me what I wore when I cycled. Normally bib shorts and one of my jerseys. Here is a pic from a ride last Fall.
I recently had my annual physical examination, which I get once every seven years, and when the nurse weighed me, I was shocked to discover how much stronger the Earth’s gravitational pull has become since 1990. Dave Barry

I just watched the Calvin Klein Super Bowl commercial. I wonder at the rate I’m going how long it will be before I look like the guys in this commercial.

Down 19.2 pounds in five weeks. I’m very happy.
Motivation is still strong. The snow is deep outside and I dream of Spring and cycling. If I can do this well with restriction of calories imagine how much better it will be when I’m on the bike every day.

As a rule I don’t eat breakfast. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day but four days a week I take my mom to doctors, chemo or to see her friends and that means getting up, quick shower and some coffee before I’m off. This deep into my lifestyle change I find I don’t really get hungry until I drop her off at 1pm. Then I come home, make a sensible lunch and drink lots of water.
I have friends who tell me that you have to eat breakfast in order to lose weight. So far it hasn’t stopped me. I found this article on the web about dieting myths. Check it out.
Also, I take video of my mom and post it on YouTube. She is a fantastic funny lady. Check it out.

What I’m doing is working. The biggest thing is no very little bread and no snacking. It’s now February 1st and I”m thinking about my plans for the year.
I’ve talked about my interest into getting back to cycling big time. I’m lucky that even though I’m overweight I’m still in pretty good shape. Due to my job (from which I recently retired) I kept up a certain level of fitness.
I’ve had a very odd life as my father died when all the children (7 of us) were young and my mother was extremely agoraphobic. That essentially means that she had severe panic attacks and couldn’t leave home. Basically it meant that we didn’t travel more than a block or two from our house. I’ve lead a very sheltered life.
With the bike, once I build up a base, I can ride to all of the small towns around Ohio. I plan to combine that with my interest in photography. I’d like to get up in the morning, cycle twenty-five miles or more to a small town. Have a light breakfast, take some pictures and ride home. Who knows? I might even take my banjo.
Eventually I’d love to cycle places like The Outer Hebrides in Scotland. One of my other interests are megaliths. In this video a couple of guys cycle around the islands playing banjo and making ice cream.
