Day 31: Month 1 Summary

I’ve beaten my goal for January.  I needed to lose 8 pounds and I’ve lost 15.8 pounds .  That doesn’t mean I can lose less next month.  The plan is 8 pounds EVERY month.  I’d like to be below 270 by the beginning of March.  That will make the cycling even easier.

Last night a friend of the family gave my wife some lemon poppy seed scones.  That was the kind of thing I’d inhale just a few short weeks ago.  Instead I drank some water and the desire went away.

I’ve added a blogroll to the right of this page.  A few are just about weight loss and most involve cycling.  I’ll be adding them as I find them.  The Year of the Phoenix is very inspirational.

I got a text today from a friend who I told a few weeks ago about this blog.  I collect comic books and have thousands of them from the 60’s and 70’s.  They are all Marvel and they are in nice shape.  Here is his text.

Day 29

When I buy cookies I eat just four and throw the rest away.  But first I spray them with Raid so I won’t dig them out of the garbage later.  Be careful, though, because that Raid really doesn’t taste that bad.

Day 28: Week 4 Summary

This has been a tough week.  I’m calling it, The Week I Didn’t Quit.  Normally when things stagnate or gain a little bit I get frustrated and go eat.  This hasn’t happened yet.  I am heading down again.  There is a small blip on the weight graph.  That’s ok.

Along with the weekly summaries I’ll be doing monthly summaries.  Remember my goal is to lose 8 pounds a month.  I’m ahead of that now and expect it to accelerate when the weather warms and I can get on the bike.  It’s 39 F out right now with ice and snow on the ground and a light rain.  March can’t get here soon enough.

I’m back on track.  Ate well yesterday and exercised.  I play in a poker tournament today which makes it easier.  I’m not tempted to eat as I’m distracted.  Hopefully the weight will start dropping again soon.

The past few days I have lost all motivation.  It is bitter cold outside and I’m tired. The big thing about this blog is I want to be absolutely honest.  My mother has lung cancer and after my brother died from colon cancer last year I have days when it gets to me.  The past few days haven’t been easy.  That said, I’m back and hitting it hard.

I found a good blog that also helps with motivation, 13 Weeks. I this blog Charlie Martin does a 13 week experiment in diet and exercise.  It’s a good read.

I lost my way a bit.  I found my way back.  It is sunny but cold outside.  Spring is weeks away.

I take my mom to McDonalds three times a week so she can be with her friends.  Today I foolishly ate a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.  They had them on sale for a buck.  I had forgotten how salty and fatty they were, I loved it.  Afterwards I had dieter’s remorse and hated myself for a couple minutes.  The sandwich wasn’t worth it’s purported 510 calories.

Day 22: A Minor Mistake

Yesterday my wife asked me to go with her and the daughter to go out for some quick shopping and a bite.  I don’t see my daughter as much now that she is an adult so I jumped at it.  Since we were going to stop for something to eat I skipped lunch (first mistake).  I foolishly forgot that when they shop it is easily a couple hours in each store.  They would go in while I sat in the freezing car listening to NPR and writing on my iPhone with my wireless keyboard.

Finally around seven we got to dinner and I was very hungry.  Unfortunately we had taken my wife’s car so I didn’t have my iPhone charger.  Just as we entered the restaurant, the Tomo Steakhouse & Sushi Bar, I realized my battery had just died on my phone.  Without my phone I couldn’t access calorie info and felt naked.  I ordered the sesame chicken which came with a small salad and miso soup.  It tasted great and even though I felt a little guilty I didn’t go nuts.

I put an extra charger in the wife’s car and shouldn’t have that problem again.
