Day 24: Stagnation

Find out who you are and do it on purpose
Dolly Parton

Weight 281

Weight is stagnating. I’m going to lower my calories and see if I can get it moving again.

Day 23:

Today I will do what others won’t, so tomorrow I can accomplish what others can’t
 Jerry Rice

Weight 281

I take my mom to McDonalds three times a week so she can be with her friends.  Today I foolishly ate a Quarter Pounder with Cheese.  They had them on sale for a buck.  I had forgotten how salty and fatty they were, I loved it.  Afterwards I had dieter’s remorse and hated myself for a couple minutes.  The sandwich wasn’t worth it’s purported 510 calories.

Day 22: A Minor Mistake

Without change something sleeps inside us, and seldom awakens. The sleeper must awaken.
Frank Herbert

Weight 279.8

Yesterday my wife asked me to go with her and the daughter to go out for some quick shopping and a bite.  I don’t see my daughter as much now that she is an adult so I jumped at it.  Since we were going to stop for something to eat I skipped lunch (first mistake).  I foolishly forgot that when they shop it is easily a couple hours in each store.  They would go in while I sat in the freezing car listening to NPR and writing on my iPhone with my wireless keyboard.

Finally around seven we got to dinner and I was very hungry.  Unfortunately we had taken my wife’s car so I didn’t have my iPhone charger.  Just as we entered the restaurant, the Tomo Steakhouse & Sushi Bar, I realized my battery had just died on my phone.  Without my phone I couldn’t access calorie info and felt naked.  I ordered the sesame chicken which came with a small salad and miso soup.  It tasted great and even though I felt a little guilty I didn’t go nuts.

I put an extra charger in the wife’s car and shouldn’t have that problem again.

Day 021: Week 3 Summary

Everyone is having a harder time than it appears.IMG_0562
Charles Grodin

Weight 277.8

It’s been three weeks and I’m officially down 15.2 pounds.  This is far better than I expected.

I still have minor variations of water weight daily that used to make me crazy and want to stop but this is working.

The plan is to lose a little over 8 pounds a month and I will easily lose two times that the first month so even if it slows down I will stay on track.

The weather has turned into a real winter with high winds and temps in the lower teens (Fahrenheit).  All I can do is hunker down.  Before this that meant making a lot of food and going into sloth mode.  Not now.  I am doing some light weight training.

I can’t wait until Spring.  I read cycling blogs and plan out my rides.  Things are going to get better and better.

Day 20: Low Carbs

Try again. Fail again. Fail better.
Samuel Beckett

Weight 276.8

This is working quite well.  I have cut out all breads and simple carbohydrates.  My biggest weakness was bread and crackers.  It amazes me how much buttered toast I would eat at a sitting. The biggest thing about this life change is my new awareness.  It is obvious now why I was (and still am) fat.

BTW, here is Honey Boo Boo Barbie

Day 019:

No man is free who is not master of himself.

Weight 278.4

Now that I am getting my diet under control I look back and I’m amazed at how much I used to eat.  No wonder I’m a lard ass.  I’d eat bacon, four egg sandwiches and a little later a couple buttered bagels.  This change is permanent.

bacon reduces your lifespan by 9 minutes

Day 018:

The need of exercise is a modern superstition, invented by people who ate too much and had nothing to think about.
George Santayana

Weight 279.2

What I’m doing is working.  I feel thinner. Life is good.
