Day 010:

What was hard to endure is sweet to recall.
French Proverb

Weight 282  Calories ?

Weight is staying exactly the same.  I will not get frustrated.  I’m not gaining so that is a good thing.  The only way I’m going to react to this is to exercise more and try to limit carbohydrates.

Day 009:

One that would have the fruit must climb the tree.
Thomas Fuller

Weight 282  Calories 1890 out of 1930

Roughly the same weight.  This is where I would get a little discouraged.  I’m not.  If I stick with The Plan it Will Work!

As a side note, I noticed someone came to this site via google by typing. “Chubby Fat Man”.  That’s what I’m talking about.

Day 008: Robert Lustig and Sugar

It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
e.e. cummings

Weight 281.6  Calories 1680 our of 1930

Weight seems to have stabilized.  Now, in an ideal world I would lose .3 pounds a day.  That will easily achieve my goal.  We will see how that goes.

Yesterday on the Diane Rehm show on NPR Robert Lustig was on talking about his new book,
Fat Chance: Beating the Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity, and Disease.  He talked about the toxicity of sugar and it was enlightening.  You can listen to the show here.

The author also has a video on YouTube that has over three million hits.  It is worth the time to watch it.

Day 007: Week 1 Summary

Nothing can add more power to your life than concentrating all your energies on a limited set of targets.
Nido Qubein

Weight 282.4  Calories ?

The first week I’ve lost ten pounds.  I’m sure much of it is water but I’ll take that.  If it is water that means it could come back just as fast so I have to be careful.  I’ve avoided the triggers and actually counted every calorie that I’ve eaten for a week.  It’s getting easier.

With this jump-start I still plan to lose 8 pounds a month.  Since I’ve dropped this I expect to lose six more by the end of January.  This is fantastic.  Now I plan to start hitting the gym.  Once the weather breaks I’ll be on the bicycle every day.  I have complete confidence that I will drop this weight.

So far I’ve been focusing on calories instead of quality and starting today I’m going to start working on eating better quality of foods.  Plus I’ll be going to the gym and starting exercise.  Probably the treadmill and a light round on the machines.

To the right is a pic of my screen from Weightbot.  It’s a great app for the iPhone.  I use that and Fatwatch to keep track of the weight.  Fatwatch has better graphing capabilities plus it uses

From Fatwatch’s website, “You cannot control your weight if you aren’t aware of how it is changing. Beyond recording the readings from your scale, FatWatch computes a moving average so that you can see the real trends behind the day-to-day shifts in your body weight.”

Day OO6: Still losing

Because you are in control of your life. Don’t ever forget that. You are what you are because of the conscious and subconscious choices you have made.
Barbara Hall

Weight 281.2  Calories 1200 out of 1930

The weight is still coming off although it is slowing down.  MyFitnesspal makes it so easy to keep track of calories.

Last night I played poker in one of my leagues and many of the guys there are seriously obese.  A bunch are in between 300 and 500 pounds.  Last night I had three at my table and they were talking about their blood pressure and diabetes medications.  Wow.  I’m glad I’m nipping this in the bud before I have to worry about any of that.

Also I got my first comment on this blog.  I’m not alone.  That is a good thing.

I’m still excited.  I can do this.

Day 005:

He who knows others is wise;He who know himself is enlightened.
Lao-tzu, The Way of Lao-tzu

Weight 282  Calories 1910 our of 1930

Yesterday was the first day that I was ravenous.  Early afternoon I was starving.  I made myself a small meal and then drank water.  After an hour the feeling passed.  It felt great finding self control.

Later I went to a poker tournament which distracted me.  While there every couple hours I’d have a fiber bar (120  calories) and forgot about food.  This works.  I can’t wait until the weather warms and I can get on the bike.

Day 004:

Every man has inside himself a parasitic being who is acting not at all to his advantage.
William S. Burroughs

Weight 284.2  Calories 1710 of a possible 1930

The rapid water loss is slowing.  It’s going well.  I’m happy.

For motivation here is a TED video with Jamie Oliver on obesity.

Day 003: Progress

I’d like to be the person I could have been but never was.  George Bernard Shaw, when asked on his deathbed, What would you do if you could live your life over again?

Weight 284.8   Calories 1924 of a possible 1930

Down eight pounds so far.  Obviously water weight.  That has been the problem with dieting in the past.  The first week I lose ten pounds and then I get discouraged down the road.  This year will be different.  I’ll be doing this the entire year.

One thing that I’m doing that I haven’t done in the past is drink a lot of water.  Seems to make a difference as far as hunger goes.

Water

Day 002: And So It Continues

The man who views the world at fifty the same as he did at twenty has wasted thirty years of his life.  Muhammad Ali

Weight 287.8  Calories 1853

Today is my wife’s birthday so I took the family to Texas Roadhouse for a steak.  Thanks to MyFitness I was able to order my food and keep track of the calories, keeping it under my 1930 cap.

Now back to our regularly scheduled blog.

I used to be an avid cyclist.  Unfortunately that was in my twenties and early thirties.  Unfortunately work took far too much out of me.  Here is a pic of me at twenty-two, a lifetime ago.
